1More Triple Driver Over-Ear Review - Review 2022

Nosotros've been pleasantly surprised past 1More's affordable in-ear options, then we had adequately high hopes for its more expensive circumaural Triple Driver Over-Ear headphones. At $249.99, they deliver an accurate, articulate audio feel with rich bass depth. Big bass lovers won't love the not-boosted approach to the lows, but these are solid reference-style headphones for that very reason. That said, in that location'southward plenty of competition if you're willing to spend $250, with some excellent options that are even less expensive.

Design

The circumaural (over-ear) design of the Triple Driver Over-Ear is offered in black with metallic highlights. The look is rather decorated. On the outside of each earcup, black polymer "rims" cover transparent chambers that business firm the drivers. This grille is labeled the "Trident bass reflector" and is intended to improve bass response. This closed blueprint also aims to go along sound leakage to a minimum, though we definitely noticed some audio escape in testing. The earcups swivel and the headphones fold inwards for easy storage.

Each earpad is generously cushioned with memory foam and covered in a leather-like cloth. The material grilles on the interior of the earcups are marked with large letters denoting the left and right ears. The cushioning on the underside of the headband is also plush and the overall fit is secure and quite comfy, even over long listening sessions.

Internally, each ear's housing employs a ceramic tweeter, a graphene driver, and a bass reflector to evangelize the audio. The impedance is measured at 32 ohms, and 1More rates the frequency response at 20Hz to 40kHz.

The clothbound cablevision, which is detachable, has a Kevlar core and connects to both earcups. Those ports are marked for the left and correct channels with colour-coded rings—white for left, red for right. The cable terminates in a three.5mm connectedness. At this toll, information technology'southward fair to wonder why 1More didn't include a cable with an inline remote control and mic.

Information technology should as well be noted that, while the headphones do ship with a handsome hardshell case, the example is rather bulky for travel. It isn't flat, nor is it especially pocket-sized, and will consume up a lot of space in a typical carry-on. Other than the aforementioned cablevision and case, the headphones ship with a quarter-inch jack adapter and a drawstring tote that might make for slightly easier packing.

Performance

On tracks with intense sub-bass content, like The Knife'southward "Silent Shout," the headphones deliver an authentic bass response. The deep lows are there, only not overly exaggerated, and they're matched with a strong high-mid and high frequency presence. At top volumes, there's no baloney on the lows, and at moderate volumes, a solid sense of bass depth is withal conveyed.

Bill Callahan'southward "Drover," a rail with far less deep bass in the mix, gives us a better sense of the Triple Commuter Over-Ear'southward general sound signature. It feels pretty close to flat response, making the headphones a solid reference-mode choice. The drums aren't overly thunderous, as they are through bass-forward pairs, only they're non thin or brittle either. Callahan's baritone vocals have a solid low-mid richness, but besides receive plenty of high-mid presence, giving them a crackling treble edge. The acoustic guitar strums and higher register percussive hits also benefit from the clarity in the high-mids and highs—this is a brilliant, crisp audio signature with authentic bass depth.

On Jay-Z and Kanye Westward's "No Church in the Wild," the kick drum loop receives plenty high-mid presence to give its assault the edge information technology needs to slice through the layers of the mix, while the vinyl crepitation that is usually relegated to groundwork condition steps forwards in the mix. The sub-bass synth hits that punctuate the beat are delivered with some power, but nothing like you'd get from a pair that boosts the sub-bass. Instead, we hear the sub-bass, only nosotros don't sense that it'due south wildly exaggerated. The vocals are delivered with superb clarity, with no added sibilance.

On orchestral tracks, like the opening scene from John Adams' The Gospel According to the Other Mary, the lower annals instrumentation sounds vibrant and full, simply nevertheless plays a supporting part to the vivid presence of the college register brass, strings, and vocals. When sub-bass exists, y'all hear it, but information technology never overtakes whatsoever other aspect of the range. Large bass lovers will find the headphones to be a flake thin, but those seeking a flat response, reference-mode over-ear pair will exist happy.

Conclusions

The 1More Triple Commuter Over-Ear headphones are comfortable and deliver an accurate audio feel. Some users might not like the lack of an inline remote and the fact they leak a lilliputian audio, and like nosotros said, bass lovers should look elsewhere. In this price range, we're big fans of the Beyerdynamic DT 880 Pro and the Sony MDR-1A. For even less nosotros too like the Sennheiser HD 569 and the Beyerdynamic DT 770 Studio. The Triple Driver Over-Ear tin can hang with this crew, but doesn't necessarily stand out from the bunch.
